Guerra’s Two Scores Get the Job Done For PSC on “Sophomore Day”

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- Prairie State sophomore Natalia Guerra (Trinity H.S.) picked a fine time to record her first two goals of the campaign.

Guerra found the back of the net twice and provided all of the scoring the Pioneers' would need Wednesday afternoon, en route to a 2-0 triumph over Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference foe Elgin on "Sophomore Day" at the Pioneer Athletic Complex.

The win elevated the Pioneers' overall record to 4-6-1 and 1-3-1 in league play.

Guerra, always a team player, looking to pass first rather than shoot, had been searching for her first markers of the season for much of the slate.

Guerra recorded her first score in the 10^th minute when she beat the Spartans' keeper one-on-one with an unassisted rocket.

She gave PSC a 2-0 edge in the 44^th with another one-on-one, unassisted strike.

At halftime of the tilt, the Pioneers honored their 13 sophomores as second-year players, Jasmine Elias, Aileen Esparza, Mia Guzman, Nashaly Baizabal, Karla Ruiz, Guerra, Emily Avalos, Abigail Fernandez, Naomi Cowan, Nyela Cowan, Mariajose Guzman, Andrea Mendez and Jane Pinkerton all received a commemorative framed photo of their time at PSC.
