Total Team Effort Pushes PSC Past Morton

Pioneers Will Now Host Triton in Region 4 Semi

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The task was going to be a tough one, that was understood from the beginning.

But in the end, that task was accomplished.

Fueled by a complete team effort, the Prairie State men's soccer team dispatched one of its biggest rivals from the post season Saturday afternoon, dropping Morton 3-1 in an NJCAA Region 4 quarterfinal match at the Pioneer Sports Complex.

PSC will now square off against another longtime rival in Triton, Tuesday afternoon in Chicago Heights (2 p.m.). in semifinal action.

Saturday, PSC caught an early break when the Pioneers were rewarded a penalty kick in the second minute of the match. Sophomore midfielder Jim Boulanger lined up to take the kick and promptly buried it into the back of the net for a 1-0 edge.

Morton's Pierre Balderas tied the contest in the 31^st when he notched a marker of his own.

PSC sophomore midfielder Edgar Perez (St. Laurence H.S.) made it a 2-1 game when he took in pass from fellow sophomore midfielder Ilyass Umar (Archbishop O'Leary H.S., CANADA) in the 63^rd.

Umar provided another helper in the 75^th when he fed a ball to sophomore captain Mateo Nabona (IFC Valence H.S., FRANCE).

PSC sophomore goalkeeper Goncalo Tomas (Escola Secundaria Camoes H.S., PORTUGAL) made seven saves in the match.
