Nabona’s Marker Holds Up as PSC Downs Longtime Rival

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. ---  While lopsided matches do occasionally occur in college soccer, one thing is guaranteed: one almost never does when Prairie State takes on South Suburban.

True to form, the 2025 installment of the long-standing rivalry wasn't either.

Thanks to an outstanding defensive effort which witnessed the Bulldogs place only two shots on goal, the Pioneers came away with a 1-0 victory at the Pioneer Sports Complex Thursday afternoon.

The victory pulled PSC to within a game of the .500 mark at 3-4.

Sophomore captain Mateo Nabona (IFC Valence H.S., FRANCE) provided the Pioneers with the only offense they would need, tallying the long marker of the match in the 15th minute, thanks to an assist off the foot of freshman defender Seydou Gori (Lycee Jacques Prevert, FRANCE).

The Pioneer defense kept the score sheet clean the rest of the way as sophomore goalkeeper Goncalo Tomas worked the full 90 minutes of the match and denied both scoring opportunities he faced.

In all, PSC poured 16 shots (one on goal) on the Bulldogs.

The Pioneers will see action next on Sunday when they square off against Carl Sandburg in a noon home tilt.
