Strong ‘D’ Plus Nabona’s Tally Recipe for Success vs. Moraine

Goalkeeper Tomas Records Fourth Straight Shutout

PALOS HILLS, Ill. --- While the offensive output of the Prairie State men's soccer team may not be up to the team's expectations thus far, it ultimately hasn't been an issue.
 
While typically a low scoring output would be an issue for most teams, the 2025 Pioneers aren't most teams.
 
Why?
 
Because PSC's defensive unit has been beyond stellar this season, to say the least.
 
Led by sophomore goalkeeper Goncalo Tomas (Escola Secundaria Camoes H.S., PORTUGAL) the Pioneers shutout longtime Skyway rival Moraine Valley 1-0 Wednesday afternoon.
 
The clean sheet was the fourth straight for PSC.
 
The victory propelled PSC's record to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in Skyway action.
 
Sophomore forward Mateo Nabona (IFC Valence H.S., FRANCE) provided the only offense the Pioneers would need, notching a tally in the 62nd minute.  The marker came courtesy of an assist by freshman defender Seydou Gori (Lycee Jacques Prevert H.S., FRANCE).
 
Prairie State's defensive front of center backs of sophomore Axel Becerra (Thornton Township H.S.), freshman Dylan Mitchell (Truro and Penwith College, ENGLAND) sophomore Henoc Ghebremicael (Lycee Saint Nicolas H.S., FRANCE) along with sophomore defensive mid Angel Saenz (T.F. North H.S.), right back Gori and left back sophomore Hudson Ferreira (IFB – Campus Ceilandia H.S., BRAZIL) allowed only three shots on goal.
 
Tomas turned away all three opportunities.
 
The Pioneers will see action next on Saturday when they host Rock Valley in a 2 p.m. start at the Pioneer Sports Complex.
